Anyone changed a drive belt on a roadking lately. I have pac man cracking on mine at 70k miles. Have tech manual and I am very mechanical but manual doesnt always give you the full picture of the task. I know primary inner and outer have to come off along with swingarm. Is it best to remove primary before swing arm due to transmission mount? $1000 bucks at dealer.

I have had the pleasure twice, one was me pay, the next one was warranty(The replacement belt made it 678 miles). The primary has to come off as well as the swing arm.

I have the factory tool to check the belt tension and I check mine every service.

There are some special tool you will need to do this, it maybe a good idea to call around to another dealership and a couple Indy shops. It is a common job.

My dealer charged me 776.00 for it, a 1000.00 seems a bit steep.

@gree:
A grand is too much for this task. I just had my trans output gear changed from 32t to 30t which included a new belt (not enough adjustment left for the OEM belt - which had 35k miles and looked good as new -- hated to buy a new one).
Anyway, parts and labor for the entire job was well under your quote; and I mean 25% under your quote.
I also got bids from two dealers and both of their quotes were just under 800 bucks... Good luck.

I changed mine on my 07 RG because I changed to a 30t trans pulley.

You don't need to remove the swing arm. There is enough room if you tap the swing arm pivot bolt through just to where it clears the frame. Remove both rear shocks and you will have enough room to slide the new belt in without twisting it at all by positioning the belt perpendicular to the bike and sliding it forward.

It works, I've done it.

I'm an acceleration junkie. I was getting bored with my 103" build after about a year of riding it and didn't want to spend the money to make it bigger and badder, so I changed the pulley. Makes a noticeable difference.

I've only gotten in to a handful of races, mostly with Stage 1 SE 110 guys. Nobody believes me when I tell them it's only a 103". It's 10.6:1 with a 590 lift cam and makes 114hp and 120tq. Those SE guys don't like getting beat. LOL
