For you guys with the E3's. Dunlops web site indicates the correct sized E3 for my Ultra is designed to fit a 3" wide wheel. How many of you who like your E3's are running them on a stock harley 9 spoke 16" x 3.5" wheel ?

Stock wheel here (whatever size that is..) -- love 'em!

I have about 10,000 miles on my METZLERS and they look like there's another 8-10,000 miles on them but thats just a guess,I got 12,000 out of the front dunlop and about 6,000 out of each rear dunlop,I always got better wear, ride and handling out of metzlers.
Changed my first stock Dunlop rear just before Sturgis 2005. Had 8,000 miles on it and could have gone 10,000 probably, but didn't want to change the tire on the road. That one went 9,000 + before I changed to Metzlers. I've had Metzlers on my '05 RKC for 20,000 + miles now. Love the ride, but hate the milage. Rear tire goes at 7,000 miles. Front is lasting about 18,000. (Not bad!!) Have an EIII that's going on the rear tomorrow. If I put my Metzler on a jiffy stand I might get the 18,000 that your claiming on your set. LOL!!!
Dunlop emailed me and said under the same conditions the EIII should get 5 to 10% more milage than the D402's. I'm hoping to get 11 or 12,000 miles from the EIII. Wish they made a WWW though...:(

I have a 2003 FLHTCI and switched over to the 880 after running 20,000 miles on the Dumblops. The 880 now have 8000 miles on them. they handle 1000% better in the rain, over rotomill and on bridges. You can run the 130 on the front and 140 on the rear with no changes to the bike. I will never go back to the OEM tire.

Michelins, anybody?

I love my Metzlers and wouldn't even think of going back to Dunlops..
Has anyone tried the new HD approved Michelin commander tires ?
I've ran dunlop 402's and metzeler 880's on my EG, and want to try something different. Anybody running with these?:hmmm:

I have been running the Michelin's on my Ultra for about 2K now. Not sure yet about the wear, although it looks right now about as good as the Dunlop 402's (got 11K out of the rear). The ride is softer, and loads better handling the curves.

On the freeway, it handles the road snakes better, although at times it likes to all of a sudden "grab" and release a snake where the Dunlop trys to follow the snake.

tires

Avon Venoms handle the best, dunlops last the longest, in my experience metzler marathons burn like a crayon and my front tire started cupping before the tire was even fully wore. Best bang for the buck dunlops, best handling Avons (super sticky) but they burn down fast.

I agree with the handling of Avon, very snapping. However I was able to get equal mileage out of both Dunlop and Avon. I am basing this statement on experience using 4 Dunlop rear/2 front and 3 rear/2 front Avon. I ride one up and usually get 10-11K on the rears. I have never taken the front tires to the wear bars because I change them with every second rear.

Just before a cross country trip last summer, my budding changed his Dunlop’s out for Metzler and I put fresh Avon’s on. On our return from the west coast we had to stop in Salt Lake City to put new shoes (dealer installed Dunlop F&R) on his softail. I think at that point in our trip we had just over 7K miles logged. My Avon's looked good and got me home with some room to spare. Total milage for that run was just under 10K. We were riding mostly secondary roads. I would guess 25% highway 75% secondary.

Looks like I am going to try the E3's. I have about 10.5K on the current rear tire, and it is surely due to be replaced.

I put a Dunlop Elite 3 on my Classic 2 years ago. Got about 11k on it now and expect to get another 1-2k out of it. This is not a stock Harley tire. Got it at an indy shop. Very happy with it. Never tried a Metz but folks who have tried both my perception is like the E3 better.

Since someone else bumped this, I'll chime in about the Michelins. Less mileage, even with more air. BUT, smoother, predictable, great in rain, and all that means you can get on your brakes hard if you ever need to.
The reason I stick with them, is because they turn aggressively. When I swapped, I found myself cutting turns too sharp (running out of room on the INSIDE of my line). I had to relearn where to look through the turns. With Dunlops, I have to look deep into the turn and push the whole time. The Michelins, I only need to think "turn" and my road king is already headed there. I have to remember to come up from the turn instead of just stop pushing on the handlebar. Very different character and dynamics. Some might hate it, I love it.

Biggest problem is that looking at skirts on the sidewalks can steer you into trouble. As if that wasn't already true enough.

I belong to the A.B.M. club. Anything But Metzelers. Not of fan of the way they handle, wear, and especially the lack of wet traction. Couldn't wait to get those 880s off the bike.

Commander II

I've never tried The Metz tire,so no op[inion on them. I've had the Dunlop's, Avon's, and other's. Commander II are the best I've ever experienced.. Have them on my 05 FLHTI and just put them on my 03 FLHRI.. Best handling.. JMO

I have an 06 FLHTCI, on my third set of dunnies, and want better life. What experience do you have with the Metzler M880's or 88's?
Greetings
I have a 2003 Heritage, Had Dunlops on it and I cant speak to the Metzlers......Butm, I put the Michellin Commander II's on mine and LOVE Them! ( Just wish they were available in a Wide White!)
Regards
