Put on a new S&S Super E carb on my 78 Shovelhead (74"). Installed as per instructions. Got it up to operating temperature, and adjusted the air/fuel mixture screw and idle. Sounds great, good throttle response. My question-when I adjust the diagram pump screw, the motor stalls. Turn it back out 2 full turns and starts right up. The instructions say to close it all the way and to turn out 1/4-1/2 turn at a time. Am I missing something? Seems to run perfect at 2 turns out from seated position. Won't run with it closed like instructions say.

The best way to adjust the S&S E or any other carb is with a tach. I turned wrenches in the 60's and 70's on cars and bikes. Every one used the tachs on their hand held Sun tach/dwell meters. I favored the FX bikes at that time and it was easy as they came with a dash mounted tach. Have Fun Fairshake
