I put a chrome spoiler on my Deuece this weekend. It's not the Screamin' Eagle 2 part one, but instead a smaller one. Looks great.
However, since I am a dumbass and always will be I mounted it up without my glasses, and discovered a "little" opportunity once I had finished.
The spoiler mounts to a frame bracket that mounts to the Bike. Part of the mounting bracket is 2 u clamps that wrap around part of the frame of the bike. This really wasn't a tough install, at all. Once you fine where the u clamps go, you basically just drop them in and tighten up the nuts. Well, that's just what I did.
What I didn't notice was that the voltage regulator wire, which runs down the frame, was underneath one of the clamps. Thus, when I tightened the clamp it pressed down on the wire. When I realized this had happend(I put my glasses on to look at the finished job) I removed that clamp to move the wire from under it.
Then the surpise - I had compressed the wire down pretty good and part of the rubber sheilding had become pressed into the copper where you could actually see some of the copper wire. Didn't sever it, just mushed it down.
I was sick. Thinking I need to get the bike to the shop to replace the wiring, I wrapped it up with insulated tape and a wire sheild. The bike cranked right up, no issues, which was a relief.
Now I'm wondering if my "repair" will be good enough and I should not worry about a fix.
Does that wire get hot after the bike runs a lot??
Has anyone else done something similar to this?
Buckethead..
